Do shoes with a wide-toe box help with hammertoes?
Asked 2 years ago
I've been struggling with hammertoes for a while now and I'm wondering if shoes with a wide-toe box could help alleviate some of the discomfort. I've tried wearing shoes that are too tight and it only seems to make the problem worse. I'm hoping that giving my toes more room to move around, helps prevent further damage, and maybe even improves the appearance of my toes. Does anyone know any more about this?

It is advised to steer clear of unsupportive shoes with a narrow toe box as this may cause your condition to get worse. Shoes with a narrow toe box will crowd the toes causing the big toe to further become misaligned and potentially your condition to get progressively worse. It is advised to acquire shoes with a wider toe box to ensure that no extra strain is placed on the toe causing it to become further misaligned. Orthotics to support the forefoot and toes are a great option in preventing and treating the symptoms you are experiencing from hammer toes.
