Can a massage help with extensor tendonitis?

Would massaging the top of my foot help me get rid of some pain that I am experiencing due to my extensor tendonitis?

A self-massage technique known as "frictioning" or "deep friction massage" may help you heal faster. Simply rub the irritated tendon at the place of maximum tenderness back and forth. Strokes should be perpendicular to the tendon's fibres, similar to strumming a guitar string. Use the pads of your fingers or your thumb to apply gentle to moderate pressure.
You can also use a foam roller or another massage tool, such as a tennis ball, to perform self-massage.
Finish by cooling down the massage region with bare ice, if possible (for safety, ice only for a maximum of about two minutes, or until the spot is numb, whichever comes first).

Self-massage of the Achilles tendon and the calf muscle will have great benefits in reducing symptoms of pain in the area. By using the pads of the fingers, gently massage the Achilles tendon around the area of pain in a perpendicular fashion. This is called cross-frictioning and should not be applied to an acute injury of the tendon, as this may aggravate symptoms and delay healing. Massage should not aggravate symptoms.
Massage and stretching of the calf muscle can also provide symptom relief by reducing tension applied to the Achilles tendon while carrying out daily activities. Using the thumb and index finger, apply gentle pressure to the achilles tendon and move your hand upwards towards the calf muscle, massaging the tissue and fluid upwards.
Applying ice can reduce inflammation in the area and thus provide pain relief. Rest is the best option for relieving symptoms of Achilles tendonitis and will allow time for the body to heal itself. Gentle exercise can be resumed when symptoms are minimal or gone. Resume activities gradually thereafter.

The question is not whether massage will help extensor tendonitis. There's evidence supporting the effectiveness of massage in treating extensor tendonitis. A deep frictional massage on the feet will relieve any tension, break any adhesions, and bring muscle relaxation and pain relief. It will also promote the healing of the tendon.
