Can compression socks lessen foot pain?
Asked 4 years ago
Can wearing compression help with pain and inflammation of the feet? I need a remedy for my plantar fasciitis and thought maybe compression socks would be able to help.

The basic answer is yes. Compression socks provide continuous pressure to the foot that reduces inflammation (and pain). It also prevents painful cramps associated with plantar fasciitis by keeping the muscles and ligaments lengthened. Again, it provides arch support and limits the arch pain that plantar fasciitis can cause.

Compression socks are said to reduce pain in the feet and lower legs, and may further help you manage a condition like plantar fasciitis. Compression socks improve blood flow and circulation in the feet, which aids in reducing healing time of the tissues and venous return by lowering the chances of the feet swelling during standing/walking activities. Compression socks further support the foot under weight-bearing and should further help in reducing symptoms associated with plantar fasciitis. Compression socks can be used in conjunction with conservative treatment methods, such as orthotics, massage, and stretching exercises for maximum relief of symptoms.
