Can rolling on a lacrosse ball help with plantar fasciitis?

Asked 3 years ago

Hi, I'm struggling with plantar fasciitis in my right arch, and I'm looking for something that can not only help ease the pain but also help it to heal. Will using a lacrosse ball (I don't have any other balls) to massage my foot provide these benefits?

Yes! This technique is great for those who want to relieve plantar fasciitis. Using the lacrosse ball will help in the myofascial release which will lead to reducing pain and breaking up the adhesions.

How to perform that exercise?

Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor, place the lacrosse ball under the arch of your foot, now lean a little forward and put weight on your injured side, and then gently and slowly roll it back and forth along the arch of your foot.

Do this exercise 30 to 60 seconds, and repeat it 3 times.

Rolling a ball under your foot MAY result in the reduction of symptoms, but it may also do just that, offering symptomatic relief only. Depending on the amount of over-pronation that occurs during your gait cycle the optimum treatment would be an appropriate orthotic.

Using a lacrosse ball will help loosen up any tightness in the calf muscle, release tension and reduce plantar fasciitis pain in the foot. However, you should note that the best approach to manage plantar fasciitis involves a combination of methods, including (but not limited to) rest, custom orthotics, exercise, and massage.
