How do you relieve arch pain?

Asked 3 years ago

Hello, I've been struggling with tight muscle pain in the arch of my foot. How do you stretch it? I tried standing on my toes, but t didn't help.

To stretch your arch, stand on the edge of a step and lower your heels till you feel a stretch in the foot arch. Hold for 15-20 seconds and then release. Alternatively, you can use a belt to stretch your arch by pulling your foot towards yourself in long-sitting. Both of these should relieve arch pain somewhat.

Arch pain is a common condition that affects many people around the world. Due to the complexity of the foot, pain felt in the arch can be due to a variety of reasons and can lead to a great deal of discomfort throughout the day.

Orthotics are an effective, relatively low-cost way to manage the sensation of pain felt in the arch of the foot. The tight muscles could be an indication that they are over-worked. This is potentially due to exercise, poor arch support or worn-down shoes. Orthotics can be introduced to support the arch and reduce fatigue in the muscles in the sole of the foot.

You can also try stretching exercises. This can be done in a sitting position with one ankle being placed onto the opposite knee. With your hands, apply a gentle stretch to the forefoot while bending it backwards towards the leg. The stretch can be felt in the sole of the foot. You can also massage the underside of your foot using a ball or manually using your thumb. This will provide some relief to the tensioned muscles.

It is important to rest if the pain levels increase to an extent where your mobility is reduced.
