Can insoles correct flat feet?

Asked 3 years ago

Hi If I had to wear insoles over a long term, would they correct my flat feet? Does anyone here know if it would be a permanent fix, meaning I can get rid of the insoles? Or would I have to wear them for the rest of my life? Thanks!

Yes. Consider getting orthotics if you have pain from flat feet and spend a lot of time standing or walking. Orthotics are semi-rigid shoe inserts that support the arch of your foot and improve biomechanics whether standing, walking, or running. Orthotics lower the likelihood of issues developing in other joints, such as your ankles, knees, hips, and lumbar spine, by providing cushioning and some shock absorption.

Custom orthotics are meant to be worn all the time according to professional instructions because they address the foot function rather than the foot itself. Furthermore, some illnesses necessitate the use of orthotics for longer than others. For example, for your case, you may wear orthotics longer if your wobbly flat feet restricts you from performing your Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).

It’s vital to follow your podiatrist’s guidelines for wearing orthotics. If you don’t wear them as directed, you risk aggravating any muscle or tendon issues. Your healing may backtrack leading to initial symptoms returning. Back, calf, ankle, or elbow pain are some of the other possible issues that may arise due to neglecting orthotics.
