Can wearing custom insoles help prevent turf toe?
Asked 2 years ago
Hi guys, does anyone know if wearing custom made insoles can help with preventing turf toe injuries? I play a lot of badminton during the week and often find myself injuring my big toes. I wear regular indoor court shoes for reference.

Custom insoles may be an affordable and effective solution to your discomfort that you are experiencing in your feet. Insoles with a rigid forefoot area are ideal for limiting the movement in the forefoot and toe region, thus reducing the potential for a turf toe injury to occur while playing sports like badminton. The orthotics relieve the pressure placed onto the forefoot region and support the big toe joint as you run or play a variety of sports. However, it is important to note that some rigid orthotics may impede mobility in your foot and aren't well tolerated by some athletes.
Alongside rest, icing and taping; custom orthotics have shown good results in improving and preventing turf toe injuries from occurring. Although beneficial for preventing turf toe injury from occurring, custom orthotics are also suitable for other foot problems you may be experiencing.
It is further recommended, when possible, to wear shoes with a stiffer sole to reduce the bending in the big toe and forefoot region. Stiff sole shoes can be used in combination with custom orthotics designed for turf toe injuries.
