How do I prevent shin splints when walking?
Asked 3 years ago
Hello, whenever I go for a reasonably long walk, I get shin splints. I'm not sure if I should continue walking once I have it, but either way, I need to find a way to prevent it from happening. Any clue? Should I buy different shoes?

Shin splints is not a serious injury, and do not cause pain while walking. But if you don't take care of them it will become hard to walk or do the normal things which you do everyday. Basic treatment would be rest, ice, and medication for pain.

Often, the cause of shin splints is overuse. Any sudden changes or intensification of physical activities that overwork the tendons, tissues, and muscles lead to splints. You can prevent splints when walking by using proper footwear during exercise, using orthotics, warming up before exercise, and avoiding hard surfaces.
