Will custom orthotics change the shape of my feet?
Asked 2 years ago
Hi there. I have recently purchased a pair of custom orthotics, and wanted to know if the orthotics will "train" my feet to function in a better way or if it will merely hold my feet in place while I am wearing it?

Orthotics are generally considered to provide shape and support to the feet while being worn and the benefits are reduced when the orthotics are removed. Mobility and strengthening exercises of the feet and lower leg may prove to more more beneficial in helping your feet cope with the loads placed through them on a daily basis. Strengthening exercises targeting the intrinsic muscles of the feet and stabilizing muscles of the lower leg will allow the foot to maintain its shape when weight is placed onto the foot, and further help to stabilize the foot during weight-bearing.
