Can flat feet be genetically predisposed?
Asked 3 years ago
Hey, I've recently been experiencing some discomfort in my feet, and after speaking to a few people, they've mentioned it could be due to having flat feet. I'm curious to know if this condition can have a genetic component - are flat feet something that can run in families? I'd appreciate any information anyone has on this topic.

Flat feet is caused either by genetic inheritance or due to injury/trauma to the foot, seen more commonly in adults. Genetic inheritance of flat feet is the most common cause; leading to a loss of arch height and the onset of discomfort or pain in the foot. Arch supports in the form of supportive shoes or custom orthotics are the best options for supporting the arch of the foot, in an effort to improve overall comfort and pain levels. These methods are usually an effective and affordable solution.
