Which insoles can I use for athletic shoes that have a high instep?
Asked 3 years ago
What the heck are people supposed to wear on their feet for athletic shoes that have a high instep? They seem to be showing in the tongues in almost every single running shoe and it ruins it for a lot of people.

Orthotics are not meant to fit into all types of shoes, but they are interchangeable with shoes that are compatible with orthotics. With athletic shoes that have a high instep, try removing the shoes original footbed/insoles and replacing them with custom-made orthotics. Otherwise, you might have to choose different athletic shoes!

Orthotics are inserted into the shoe on top of the already built-in insoles within the shoe. The added insoles take up room within the shoe which may cause the tongue to protrude out of the shoe as you describe. Acquiring shoes that have space for the high of the arch and the custom insoles may be your best bet in getting the shoe to look good on your feet. You can also free up space within the shoe by removing the original insole that the shoe is manufactured with. Finding insoles that both provide support and comfort while being thin in thickness, can also help in limiting the tongue protruding out the shoe when the shoe is fitted on your foot.
